Bionutrient Association and a Few Scientists Lead the Way On Nutritional Decline of our Food
Our food might not be as healthy as it used to be. This report by Politico comes on the heels of mounting research that sterile fields have led to a decline in the nutrient density of our food.
Sterile fields are caused by the application of synthetic pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers, as well as an overall lower diversity of plants being grown in our agricultural production systems. These chemicals degrade healthy soil microbes, causing a reduction in the nutrient uptake by plants. This is because microbes transform soil nutrients into readily digestible nutrients for plants. These plants in turn are eaten by us, or animals that we eat, and determine the amount of nutrients our bodies receive.
